Summary/Abstract: A study of written accounts allowed the author to conclude that 1230s Western European official documents invariably title the Glaician-Volhynian Knyaz Daniel Romanovich as ‘the King of Rus’” Noteworthy, his title was recognized by the Pope and the German Emperor. Thus, both supreme institutions of the Western Christian world, invested with the right to award royal titles to secular rulers, not only recognized this title in case of the Galician-Volhynian Russian Knyaz, but also, undoubtedly, considered him to be the first King of All Rus’ among other rulers of independent Russian lands and towns. Earlier, the Western Europe recognized this title only after the Grand Kievan Knyazes Vladimir the Holy, Yaroslav the Wise and their closest descendants.
