Summary/Abstract: Anthracology provides information on local vegetation during different periods of occupation of archaeological sites. Thanks to this method, it is possible to define the influence of man on the vegetation, as well as the changes of this vegetation during the different periods. Both paleoecological and paleoethnobotanical data can be obtained. Carpology, on the other hand, provides information on cultivated plants, the development of agriculture, migration routes and so on. Wild flora and weeds also provide information on the stages of development of agriculture and domestication. Indeed, thanks to the complementary contribution of these two disciplines, we can obtain information relating to the paleoenvironment of the prehistoric populations. This study is part of the "Maritza Iztok" project, concerning archaeological sites in southern Bulgaria, located in the eastern part of the Gornotrakiiska Plain. Outdoor sites, as well as necropolises, are being studied as part of this project. The majority of these sites are part of a continuity from the Neolithic until the Bronze Age. Their study is therefore fundamental both from an archaeological point of view and in a multidisciplinary context. In this paper, only the anthracological study and the carpological study of the Madretz site (Nova Zagora, Bulgaria) will be presented.
