Summary/Abstract: The subject of the study are elements of lexical contents, semantic development, vividness, as well as syntax and phonological structures which we distinguish while shaping the stylistic background of idioms and define as stylistic properties. Stylistic properties determine the appropriate use of idioms in linguistic communication. On the one hand, in translation practice, they cause problems with maintaining the stylistic value in the output language. On the other hand, in glottodidactics, maintaining the sameness of linguistic values in teaching idioms is not consistent. The purpose of the study of lexical and semantic equivalents is to describe and compare stylistic properties of idioms in Polish, Russian and Belarussian. The comparative analysis is done on the basis of dictionary idiomatic material, while lexicosemantic conformity serves as the basic indicator of selecting idioms. The comparative study reveals the existence of stylistic differences of some lexical and semantic equivalents. The results show that from the pragmatic point of view the use of a lexical and semantic equivalent may affect the created image and, as a result, the effectiveness of the message.
