Summary/Abstract: The article presents selected characteristics of vocabulary connected with a section of geography, hydrology. The 17th and 18th centuries saw a rising interest in various fields of knowledge, paired with the necessity to coin terminology on the foundations of the general language. The historical-linguistic analysis aims at describing the ways of functioning of the emerging hydrological terminology.
