Summary/Abstract: In this work, which consists of two parts, we would like to present some aspects of the “German” and international perception of Meša Selimović and his opus. Thereby we consider the degree of the author’s popularity and representation in German-speaking countries and in other European languages. The second part deals with lexical examples in the translation of the novel "Derviši smrt” – The Dervish and Death into the German language and analyzes the possibility of translation and/or adaptation of words of oriental origin.
