Summary/Abstract: The article presents the discourse about the situation of children in families in which parents leave the country for financial reasons. It discusses the characteristics of migrant families in the context of contemporary scientific approach to family. The article presents an empirical illustration of the social and emotional functioning of a child in migrant family in late childhood. It describes global conclusions of the results of the qualitative research conducted among family members separated due to migration. In conclusion, the author attempts to relate the respondents’ experience to the concept of a “supermodern child”.
