Summary/Abstract: In ancient Rome the professions of actors and orators seemed to be the two sides of the same coin. The coin is performance and the sides are good and evil. Actors were seen as scum who dare to pretend they can be anyone, even though on stage only. Orators, on the other hand, were respected members of the community, perceived as crucial representatives of Roman society.
