Summary/Abstract: This article deals with certain distinct features typical of public policy in the United States examined through the prism of what is known as the public sphere. Above all this entails the shaping of various social attitudes and opinions, conducting debates devoted to relevant topics, and then formulating expectations and solutions. Public policy itself is realized by governments (using the plural, we mean all levels from the federal to the local). These governments make decisions as to what they will or will not bring to fruition. On the one hand, public policy is rooted in fundamental ideological orientations and political directions. On the other hand, it operates in concert with the private and free market sector as well as the third sector of non-governmental social action. Numerous social phenomena at various levels of the social structure are part and parcel of this. The entirety comprises a highly diversified but also very dynamic image of events and processes.
