Summary/Abstract: Foreign direct investment represents the main lever of development of national economies, and therefore of the whole world. Today's world as we know it would not be the same place without foreign direct investments. Foreign direct investments have their long history of creation, thus laying the foundation for the transnationalization of the world economy. However, contemporary forms of foreign direct investment experience their expansion in the period after the Second World War, and for the true flourishing of these they are bound by the end of the XX and the beginning of the 21st century. The subject of this paper is the analysis of foreign direct investment flows in the world, that is, an insight into the value of the inflow and outflow of foreign direct investments in the world. The data is taken from the latest World Investment Report from 2017, published annually by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
