Summary/Abstract: The article presents a demographic description of the families registered at the parish of Nowy Korczyn in the second half of the 18th century. The description is based on the method of reconstructing families created by Louis Henry; it consists in nominal assigning married couples to all the demographic events recorded in the parish registers. As a result 265 closed families and 317 open ones have been reconstructed. In addition, complete families (with children) have appeared in the research. Three series of the registers of the Nowy-Korczyn parish, kept in the Diocesan Archives in Kielce, have served as the main source. The records of the registers have varied in their completeness. The material used in the research has permitted to answer the basic question concerning the ancient family. On average, closed families (with children) had four children, and one complete family (with children) had 4.2 children. These results coincide with the current findings (e.g. woman’s fertility is determined by her age). In the parish in question cases of birth control have been confirmed.
