Summary/Abstract: The short story “The End” could be regarded as Beckett’s more accomplished piece of writing as the insight into what really remains at the end of life is particularly strong. The upheaval the first person narrator, embodied in an old man, has to go through before disappearing and succumbing to his surroundings reveals the ordeal that pushes the character to reach his limits of bearability and suffering during this difficult age and with his fragile make-up. The artistic output rendered overwhelms by its cosmical reference and magnitude of emotional participation and felt exaltation.
