Summary/Abstract: The question of the influence of religion, i.e. the teachings of certain religions regarding the understanding of certain cultural, social and political phenomena, either individually or in cooperation, is of significant importance particularly when those teachings refer to the manifestations of political violence. Of fundamental importance is also a proper insight into the similarities and differences which exist in defining the authority these understandings impose, as well as the sources from which these interpretations are derived. In this paper, the author analyzes the Orthodox understanding of political violence and how it manifests itself, relying on the dogmatic teaching of the Orthodox Church whose primary sources are the Holy Bible and canonical law.
