Summary/Abstract: On the basis of meaning and composition we distinguish certain groups of Estonian terms of personality traits where either direct or indirect references to emotional experience and physical motion can be detected. We argue for the theory of embodiment originating in cognitive linguistics as an explanation. We introduce some cognitive mechanisms which enable projections from the domain of physical motion to more abstract domains such as emotions, motivation and social relations. in the case of conceptualizations a distinction between the level of content and the conceptualizer’s position is made and the axiological aspects of personality traits are also accounted for.
