Enlightened Debates od Economy and Religion in the Correspondence of Polish Magnates with the Moravia Brethren

Summary/Abstract: Polish magnates were actively engaged in reforming the mangaement of their estates in the second half of the 18thcentury. As part of this effort, several tried to attract foreign craftsmen to settle on their grounds to work in new factories, including the Moravian Brethren in Herrnhut, Saxony. This article focuses on the analysis of unpublished correspondence in German of the magnates and the Moravians to show how the former contacted the latter, how their coorespondence evolved and why Moravian settlements were finally not established in Poland during this period.
