Summary/Abstract: A museum educator (regardless of the actual name of their position) is a well-defined and described museum profession. This paper examines the position and the role of a museum educator within the framework of a modern museum through the prism of the sociology of professions which seeks to define professions as roles marked by high level of domain-specific education and professional socialization, the existence of an ethical codex, high degree of specialization in everyday activities, the role of the client, freedom and autonomy and a high level of respect. Using these criteria, true professions and semi-professions are distinguished and in this paper, we seek to do the same for the profession of a museum educator.
