Summary/Abstract: Semiology and structuralism are among the most important 20th century social science approaches. These approaches are frequently used in the description of modern society and social myths. Roland Barthes is one of the important social scientists of the 20th century and is among the founders of the semiology. He has thought and wrote much about the definition, methodology and principles of semiology. He saw semiology as everything and did all his scientific works within the limits of semiology. He has made structural linguistics based semiology. In this study, semiology is examined in the light of Barthes’ works who can be counted from the founders. The meaning of semiology, it’s four main principles, and methods have been uncovered. Again, some semiology applications made by Barthes himself have been examined.
