Summary/Abstract: In the first part our intention is to delineate a criterion for the epistemological framework in order to understand historical events. Due to the direct unobservability of the past events which gave birth the "fallacy of referentiality”, our approach is grounded on the speculative philosophy of history (especially in its Hegelian form). The main aim of the second part is to analyze the revolutionary concepts, following the evolution of virtue towards its final destination, terror. Robespierre’s speech on virtue and terror, as paradigmatic will be analyzed. In the concluding part we will show the unfinished nature of the democracy, which was the purpose of revolutionary idea, following Habermas’ idea on modernity as unfinished project and Ranciere’s critical account on human rights.
