Summary/Abstract: In the co-cultural discourse delineated by Mark P. Orbe, three types of preferred outcomes shape the communication strategy of members of minority groups: assimilation, accommodation, and separation. It is the latter type that I examine in the speeches and sermons of Vernon Johns and Martin Luther King, Jr. in order to add a tinge to their ultimately integrationist/accommodationist oeuvre.
