Summary/Abstract: The city of Buzău went through a period of intense development and modernization between 1880 and 1914. Symbolic buildings were built in the city in that period, including the Municipal Palace or the Alexander Marghiloman Albatros Villa. In the interwar period, the most important investment the municipality made was in the St. Angels Square. All these emblematic buildings suffered because of earthquakes, bombings and the communist regime. These days, local authorities have managed to strengthen the Municipal Palace, to rehabilitate Villa Albatros, which was in a deplorable state, but failed to keep the original shape of St. Angels Square.During communism, there were many buildings and sometimes interesting architectural solutions were adopted, such as the Trade Union House of Culture building, which deserves to become a historical monument.
