Summary/Abstract: An individual can volunteer in a non-governmental organization under normal circumstances, participate in social awareness projects, socialize with the individuals he or she runs together, generate energy through shared experiences and the dynamics of the social capital he or she is in. However this process becomes more interactive when technology and virtual media enter into business. Individuals can be socialized at any moment of the day with the community in which they are located and they can contribute to the group in an interactive manner with the individuals in their surroundings. In this research, social media tools, one of the most important indicators of technological developments in the present day, have examined the effect of social media on social capital. The differences of social media from traditional media tools are emphasized. The power of social media an advertising and propoganda has been argued. The question of how important social media is for civil society is debated. The contribution of contemporary media tools to social capital has been discussed upon in the study. The benefits of correct use of social media has been revealed.
