Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to the Ukrainian nation-building problem, in the conditions of the Russian Empire. In the context of the “national projects” theory, the concept of “Malorussian (Little Russian) project”, meant as a constructed “image” of Malorussia (a set of ideas about the past, the situation and prospects of the Ukrainian lands and their population in the Russian Empire) formed within the national discourse, focusing mainly on issues of an ethno-cultural character; on the process of its creation and public implementation.
