Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the issues of minority discourse in the sphere of public communication. Minority discourse has been defined in terms of contents excluded from the key agenda in the mainstream media. These issues are rarely subject to sociological discourse analysis, usually limited to the sphere of symbolic elites and the messages these elites tend to convey. The papier is an attempt at broadening the field of empirical reflections, by including the status of minority discourses and meanings assigned by public communication actors who are not identified as members of symbolic elites. The discussed vision of public communication refers directly to two models of public sphere (deliberative and agonistic) which emphasize the role of minorities in the democratic order. The paper details also some proposals for research on discourse: such projects should cover both discourse analysis per se and individual attitudes to its contents.
