Summary/Abstract: The article shows how works of science fiction represent the current mentality of different cultures. Doctor Who and Stargate are analysed as models of the British and of the American imaginary. Encounters with alien “monsters” are seen in their analogies with real 20th and 21st century encounters between cultures.
