Summary/Abstract: The article above deals with the Albanian efforts to get close to USA and Great Britain in the 70s and 80s of the past century which were finalized in 1991 after the fall of the communist regime in Albania. The efforts to normalize the relations of Albania with Great Britain were impeded by the unsolved questions carried on since after World War II like the unpaid reparations of Albania for the Corfu Channel Incident and the blockade of Albanian monetary gold imposed by the Tripartite Commission behind which stood Great Britain. Despite the steps taken by both sides in the 80s, these two problems came to no solution and as a result no diplomatic relations were reestablished. The Albanian government proved rigid and respected old political schemes. From the second half of the 60s and on the US was the initiator of the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with Albania, but the communist governments turned it down permanently. The fear of the communist leadership from the US and the Soviet Union was sanctioned even in the constitution of 1976 which forbade the reestablishment of diplomatic relations with these two countries. The article brings forth new estimations and interpretations as well as the viewpoints of the governments of all three parties. The article is based on a rich documentary source basis referring to Albanian, American and British diplomatic archive documents.
