Summary/Abstract: The public library has the role to contribute to the development and prosperity of the individuals belonging to a community. The social progress is based on a satisfactory level of culture and education. The European strategy for 2020 about employment and economic growth maintains the objective to reduce the school renunciation. Public libraries provide the fundamental conditions for lifelong learning to the individuals and social groups. Public libraries have the following major objectives: develop and maintain the reading habits to children, support the educational processes, both at individual and institutional level, support the personal creativity, contribute to the record and preservation of the local community patrimony, ensure the access to the cultural values and to the great national and international creations, promote the intercultural dialogue and support the artistic diversity, ensure the citizens’ access too all the types of community information and provide information at request for the economical units and the groups of interests in the community.
