Summary/Abstract: The aim of this work is to explore the types of communication between male and female protagonists in the prose works of the Croatian author Adela Milčinović, who published her first writings in the Sarajevo literary magazine Nada. Particular emphasis is placed on elements of verbal and non-verbal communication (which were constituents in the formation of the author's poetics while she helped develop Croatian Literary Modernism, a stylistic period to which Milčinović belongs). In view of the fact that the male-female communication breakdown is one of the author's thematic concerns, attention is given to the process of the literary formation of the so-called gender communication barrier, which is marked by the author’s literary engagement in its conceptual and poetical senses.
