Summary/Abstract: The life and heroic death of Poniatowski were a notable example of great commitment and honor. Burial ceremonies, numerous anniversaries and art took a great part in building his legend. The returning of Prince’s corpse to Poland, memorial services and a burial at Wawel were significant to the Polish society. Numerous literary works were glorifying Poniatowski’s patriotism. The proof of Poniatowski’s worship were efforts to build his statue in Warsaw and anniversary celebrations in 1913, described in detail in this dissertation. Worship of Prince Józef inspired the following, fighting for independence, generations and became an integral part of Polish army myths.
