Summary/Abstract: This paper presents history of the public garden in Kalisz at the turn of 19 – 20 centuries and main narratives of its functioning. The aim of this article is to connect garden architecture and sculpture from around 1900 with the town public sphere and visual culture. Architectural structures and garden patterns shaped crucial spaces of modern recreation and commerce in this industrial city. At the same time, Kalisz public garden may serve as a perfect example of interactions in space between narratives of history, Russian government power or private desire, unfolding class‐, national‐ or gender‐based divisions.
