Why democracy needs humanists, it opens a pessimistic diagnosis of the state of modern education. On the first pages of the work, the American legal philosopher is building an allegory of cancer, which neglect and resignation from running liberal education, IE - in the author's understanding - associated with the ideal of liberal arts, should prove to be a modern democracy.
