Summary/Abstract: The language of mass media is the most democratic style of the standard language. Therefore, different changes of grammatical structure most frequently appear in the mass media language. These changes are very often combined with additional stylistic information, e.g. the genitive of noun without preposition alongside the verbs alkt – ‘to desire’, baidīties – ‘to be afraid’, bēgt – ‘to run away’ instead of the prepositional phrase in Modern Latvian. Phrases as baidīties tiesas – ‘to be afraid of court’, or alkt svaiga gaisa – ‘to desire fresh air’ used in headings are more expressive in comparison with prepositional phrases baidīties no tiesas, alkt pēc svaiga gaisa. Another case of morphostylistics analyzed in the paper is the usage of demonstrative pronouns tas, tā as definite articles. This is a very typical feature of colloquial Latvian also observed in the mass media language.
