Summary/Abstract: Thе facts presented in the article lead to а conclusion that thе сustоmѕ related to the wedding ceremony within the inhabitants of the village Podgorci near Struga are diverse and numerous. Their basic purpose has, both in the past, and today, been to provide for the future marital partners welfare in their matrimony, аѕ well аѕ fertility and protection from the evil spirits. А considerable number of the described activities ме today still pedormed at the wedding ceremonies. Ѕоmе of the customs have been transformed or enhanced by а number of novelties under the influence of the social and есопошiс changes. In this new and modem way of life, the young people ме the опеѕ to make the choice of their marital partner, but the customs of giving а "word" and matchmaking ме still present, though rather formally than in the true ѕепѕе of the word. Going with "schamljas" (kerchieves) has also been retained, with the notion that the presents brought in them ме nowadays quite different. Pieces of modern garment are presented now, in addition to golden jewellery, etc .. Wearing of the ceremonial bride's folk costume has been retained оnlу оп mondays, when the bride is being taken to the water. Оп Sunday, thе bride usually wears а white wedding dress. Thе contents exposed in the article show that а considerable number of wedding customs have been retained within the Macedonian population in the forme in which they existed ѕоmе 50-100 уеarѕ ago. Although this is an arеа populated with people incleaned to emigaration, efforts have always been made for caressing and keeping up the traditions.
