Summary/Abstract: A scrupulous analyses of the interacting ways between the text and the image needs an elaborate study of the present work of art. The insertion of the visual discourse into the verbal one proves a mutation of the communication registries with the onlooker/reader, both being known as ways of knowledge for the receiver. The entry of the image of a text, especially a picture, underlines the disparity of the representation systems. Mihail Sebastian's novel "The Accident" blithesomely exposes the role of an image inside a fictional text, the last having its roots firmly fixed into reality. In this Romanian universe the romantic scene described by the author has its own representations in pictures, of Ekphrastic origin, these representations having the role to intensify significations and to elucidate meanings in order to show the compatibility between verbal and nonverbal arts. Thus, the present study, which uses the comparative and transdiciplinary approach methods, clarifies the text/image interference field. The understanding of this work of art through the exposure of ekphprastic description supplements the already existing studies in this field and brings to the reader's attention the companionship between the art of painting and that of literature The comparative examination of the verbal and visual discourse will be contextualized and applied in "The Accident", a novel marked by the knowledge of an expert in visual art.
