Summary/Abstract: The National Library administrates the national documentary patrimony and includes in its collection the entire production of contemporary documents, as well as bibliophile documents. The National Library of Romania fulfills its function to identify, create, develop, organize, preserve, research, make available and valorize the national documentary patrimony through the National Centre ISBN-ISSN-ISMN-CIP, the National Agency for Legal Deposit, the National Bibliographic Agency and the National Digital Library. In the same time, the National Library administrates the National Shared Catalogue which includes the ensemble of collections in the libraries in Romania. Beside the current editorial production, through the department Special Collections, the National Library is the repository of the most valuable and important collections in Romania, remarkable by their importance for the Romanian and world culture. The National Library is, in the same time the National Exchange Centre and National Methodological Centre, and it achieves and coordinates the information and documentation activity in the framework of the National Library System; it is also the National Centre for the Documents Pathology and Restoration and it coordinates the preservation, conservation and restoration activities, at national level.
