Summary/Abstract: Labor market in Serbia is characterized by very negative tendencies: very big rate of unemployment, bad structure of unemployed (sex, age and educational), small labor mobility. One of the biggest paradox in Serbian labor market is high unemployment on one hand and shortage of quality labor force, at the other. In this article, the characteristics of labor market in Serbia has been illustratively represented through example of North Banat region. This area has very big number of unemployed and, at the same time, very big number of free vacancies. All the attempts that are taken in order to diminish the existing differences between the supply and demand in the labor market, still haven’t give any results. The analysis of the regional characteristics of the North Banat’s labor market showed its uniqueness and the proportion of the gap between desires and the possibilities of the unemployed in that region. Disharmony between the needs of the North Banat’s labor market and the offer of the professional education in the area is especially big problem. This is still very big unsolved obstacle, although that some steps towards the reform of the vocational educational system has been taken, in the first place, the reform of the secondary school network in the North Banat’s region.
