Summary/Abstract: The paper deals with the main characteristics of demographic and functional development of the settlements in the southeastern piedmot area of Rudnik. The present characteristics resulted from pronounced and long-term economic underdevelopment. A low level of birth rate and moving to Gornji Milanovac and Kragujevac caused great depopulation in most villages. Demographically small and old villages are faced with further depopulation. Vraćevšnica (centre of the community of villages) stands out in its stable demographic and functional development.
