Summary/Abstract: The article discusses military origins of strategy as a science presenting its Ancient Greek roots and XIX century developments. A focus is given to consequences of the fact that strategy had been created and pursued as an intellectual base for running wars with an enemy as a central point of reference. This creates a fundamental danger if military based strategic thinking is to be applied to business as in that area not competitor (enemy) but a client is an ultimate source of success or failure. However when this key difference is properly recognized various military concepts and experiences can be used with a benefit while formulating a feasible business strategy.
