Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the article is to analyse in historical retrospect the methodological foundations of the formation of European performing schools – Italian, French and German, and to reveal the characteristic features of the national school of vocal art. Methodology. The general scientific methods such as historical and chronological, method of systematization, comparison, generalization of the problem under study are applied. The basis of the work is the main provisions of modern art science, the specifics of the creative process, dealt with the problems of interpretation in the performing arts. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty is the fact that the author is the first who analyses the process of the formation of the national vocal school in the context of the general methodology of European vocal schools and general cultural development. Conclusions. The studying of scientific and methodical literature, fundamental works of the theory and pedagogy of vocal art shows that the problem of vocal preparation of the future actor is relevant and should be solved on the basis of accumulated theoretical and practical experience (vocal pedagogical schools) and empirically found methods of teaching singing. The traditions of vocal pedagogy are based on the methods of creating the performing level of singing art, polished by centuries-old achievements in the historical and cultural development of national features of the people.
