Music in the modern socio-cultural situation: features and directions of research

Summary/Abstract: The research is connected with the definition of the key parameters of the crisis socio-cultural situation in the projection on the problem field of contemporary music art, as well as with consideration of priority directions in the study of the cultural and artistic situation of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Methodology. The methodology of the research consists in the application of comparative, historical-comparative, musicological and culturological approaches. These methodological approaches allow us to delineate and analyze the main factors that contributed to the crisis situations in the culture both in the previous epochs and in the situation of the present day. Scientific Novelty. The scientific novelty of the work is to present the specific features of modern crisis culture and to identify possible ways of expanding the research methods and approaches to the new socio-cultural situation that have been tested in classical science. A comparative analysis of the transitional classically epochs of the Baroque, Romanticism and Modern gives an opportunity to better understand the characteristic features of each of them and to predict future modifications. Conclusions. The contemporary structural crisis of musical culture differs from the previous by the number of components involved in it. The invention and distribution of audio recordings is one of the leading socio-cultural factors that caused significant differences in the current crisis from previous ones. The modern musical world is characterized by its intonational poly-composition and the coexistence of various intonational practices, which led to two promising directions of scientific research: immanent musicology and contextual-culturological.
