Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to present the beginnings of the Polish power sector in the period from the late nineteenth century to the Second World War, with particular focus on power plants in Vilnius and Białystok. Polish power system was built in three different foreign partitions, which had a significant impact on its further evolution. Both analyzed power plants were built in the Russian zone. This article tries to present the most important similarities and differences in the history of their activity.
