Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the role of Wilhelm Tell, a play by Friedrich Schiller, in the construction of a heroic narrative on the Sarajevo Assassination, which Vladimir Dedijer, a historian, gave a full insight into in his book Sarajevo 1914. The paper further critically examines the thesis on intense reception of Schiller’s plays in literary works and articles published by Mlada Bosna in order to point out the differences in the very concept of “murdering a tyrant” and the idea of “freedom” cherished by members of Mlada Bosna and St. Vitus Day conspirators when compared to ideas found in Schiller’s works.
