Summary/Abstract: In the multi-volume collection of Sienkiewicz’s correspondence, with more than three thousand letters, the most important place is occupied by those addressed to people particularly close to him. Those that document real friendship should primarily include letters to: Konrad Dobrski, Mścisław Godlewski, Stanisław Witkiewicz and Karol Potkański. The author of the paper selected the correspondence with Godlewski and Potkański, for both certain similarities and, more often, for the differences between the addressees and the differing “images” of friendship. The article highlights an important feature of Sienkiewicz’s character: the need to maintain contact with rebellious, unconventional, and modern people; for although Sienkiewicz has left the “progressive” and bohemian circles, in a way he missed them.
