Summary/Abstract: The purpose of this article is to show the composition and professional specialisation of a minority social group in Mallorcan society (known by the name of xuetes) which, in spite of being excluded socially during the Middle Ages and up until the mid-20th century, did however stand out in the field of commerce. This article focuses on the period covering the last third of the 18th century until the 1930s. Its objective is to cover one of the lesser-known periods and at the same time to corroborate or refute some of the hypotheses that have been considered up to the present, fundamentally with regard to the control of certain trades and professions.
