Leadership in the Focus of Political Psychology: Contemporary Approaches

Summary/Abstract: The article presents an overview of current approaches to the topic of leadership from positions of Political psychology. The content of publications on the subject in two international specialized media – Journal of Political Psychology and Journal of Social and Political Psychology – in the period January 2013- August 2016 is analysed. Analysis shows dominance of theories of social identity and approaches related to social cognition. Understanding of Leadership expanded traditional definitions and has included a wider range of actors from the political and public life. The impact of the context, the process of perception and the role of followers / voters are among the topics that provoke greatest interest for researchers, which is reflected in the ideas for “personalization of politics” and the “active follower.”
