Summary/Abstract: Ion D. Sîrbu (1919-1989) represent-ed one of the major surprises of post-com-munist Romanian literature and his posthu-mous masterpieces, Adio, Europa! (the firstvolume in 1992 and the second volume in1993), Jurnalul unui jurnalist fără jurnal (thefirst volume in 1991 and the second volumein 1993), as well as his vast correspondence, have managed to bring forth an authorworthy of praise. The paper however, willfocus on the “other Ion D. Sîrbu,” the prolif-ic, yet unsuccessful, anthumous playwrightand novelist. We will discuss these “minor”works, attempting less their canonical re-valuation, but rather aiming to see whethertheir very “residual” status can offer a valu-able insight into understanding the inconsis-tencies in Sîrbu’s literary trajectory
