Summary/Abstract: What makes Eliot and Ivanov comparable? Both are modernist writers affiliated to the poetics of early 20th century symbolism and to ideologies, or at least poetic visions, definable as conservative. Both have demonstrated theoretical interest in aesthetics and poetics and both have remained in their national literary canons as poets and as theoreticians of artistic creativity.
