Summary/Abstract: Catholic social doctrine is rooted in Revelation. On the basis of this source of faith, the Magisterium of the Church encourages the believers to organised social services. During the interwar period in Lithuania, the bishops invited their people to form Catholic organizations and to get involved into educational and charitable works. This work was very important at that time. Because of the shortage of finance, most of the people were not able to receive an education. There also was a lack of motivation. It included social stereotypes, especially concerning the education of women. Charitable work was also not widely developed. The Church made its best to compensate for these shortcomings by the efforts to organize social services.
