Summary/Abstract: This article seeks to reveal how in his performance „To Damascus,“ Oskaras Kor unovas conveys a spiritual journey archetype in the drama of Strindberg. Important is the analysis of the structural elements – text, scenography, acting, costumes, music, lighting, action and interaction with the audience. The director uses the stylistics of the postmodern theatre. The director does not follow the scenery of stage that are described in the play remarks, but he creates a new visual interpretation through the aesthetic of cinematographic horror films. The aesthetic symbolizes the material reality manageable by the archetypal Earth Mother. The dramatic text, scenography, lighting and music are treated likewise. For the polysemous interpretation of viewers, these elements are often opposed to the archetypal hero image. An analysis of the performance shows how the director interprets the key moments of the play, how he creates a painful journey toward self. Sincere acting of the actor emboding the main hero makes the audience work together to find answers of the profoundest questions of existence.
