Summary/Abstract: The new principle of the ruling minority, revealed in the modern democracy, is closely linked to the principle of the disability of the majority. Even though it was known in Antiquity, this disability of the majority is greatly reinforced in the postmodern consumer society. Invoking the nameless powers of the market and quoting its various experts, the capital owners take self-interested decisions in the name of the rest of the society. The society of the consumption of the market supersedes the political community of the democracy. Now dependants merely on the decisions of the others, former citizens are transformed into users and powerless observers.
