Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes the main periods of fifty years long intellectual and creative evolution of Augustinas Savickas (1919–2012). It discusses at length the beginnings, internal and external factors and circumstances of his oeuvre and its relations with that of his predecessors and contemporaries. It focuses on the process of Savickas’ stylistic metamorphosis in various genres: landscape-painting, portraiture, still-life, history-painting etc.; exposes the role of tragic and dramatic motives in his creative work; considers his major pieces of art in each period as well as their stylistic traits, dominant motives and the means of artistic expression.
