Urgent ultra-sonography in the management of acute abdominal pain

Summary/Abstract: Acute abdominal pain and acute abdomen represent common emergencies on all the levels of health service. Over the last ten years abdominal ultrasonography has become a routine procedure in the evaluation of acute abdominal pain and the use of ultrasound has become a major part of the equipment in emergency medicine. An adequate clinical assessment of a patient involves abdominal ultrasonography which enables an early etiological diagnosis of acute abdomen. It also enables focused and rational choice of further diagnostic procedures.
